Dream I

Borja Torrent
(Madrid, Spain 1975)

70 x 70 cm. (27,55 x 27,55 in.)  Pigments and epoxy resin on canvas. 2021

The solidified fluid that the transparent pigmented resin that I use in my compositions becomes is not without significance. The use of bright, clean and vivid colors is not random, it is a reflection of my intimate experience. My old profession as a water chemist and the importance of fluids in the renal replacement therapy that I needed for several years are present. Perhaps these compositions are a reflection of my interior, an intimate desire for life to be beautiful.
After several years studying Art, it seems that I have found a form of expression suitable for my purposes. Perhaps what is interesting is just the creation process, the choice of colors, the blends, the composition, the overlapping of the layers.
Matter as a dialectical factor is important in my pieces. I intend to establish a dialogue with the viewer from the most formal, academic, to the most accidental or casual. For this reason, the immediate photograph taken by a mobile of this work does not do justice to its live viewing. On the small screen you cannot see the planes of color, its texture, its clean and radiant surface. The transparency and finish that the material provides is only appreciated live.
In the age of screens where every day we see hundreds or thousands of images, it is my intention to make paintings that are necessary to see them in person. I am interested in being perceived as having a second observation, that the person is not satisfied with a single fleeting glance due to the attractive color combination. My intention is for you to stop and appreciate the composition and complexity of the color, the subtlety of its finish and the reflection of light from different angles. I want the works to invite you to be, to spend a while in front of them, I would love for them to be a place where you can stop and waste your time.
It is not relevant that the meaning of the work is fixed and unique. Painting can have other meanings that the observer constructs and I like that it becomes something that is completed simultaneously with the observer’s observation.
