Iñaki Ormaechea (Pamplona, Spain 1959)

Iñaki Ormaechea was born in Pamplona, Spain in 1959. He attended the School of the Arts of Pamplona where he took courses in drawing and painting. Ormaechea graduated with a degree in Graphic Design and Communication at the Tracor Arts Institute in Spain and he also received a degree in Fine Arts at the University of Basque Country.
Iñaki became proficient in the art of engraving at the Zubiarte de Huarte workshop in Pamplona. For the last 25 years Iñaki Ormaechea has been combining his graphic design work with his sculpting and engraving skills in a dynamic way. Iñaki’s sculptures are derived from geometric drawings that are translated into three dimensional aluminum forms. The artist has chosen to work with this particular metal because of its delicate malleability and its luster, which reflects light, depth, color and space to create wonderful and dynamic finished sculptures. These pieces are created by folding metal planes, thereby developing perspective through color, shadow, light and crisp lines.
